Bangla Literature (Bengali Literature) goes back to the 700 Years at least and it may be divided into three main periods: Ancient Period, Medieval Period, and Modern Period . The different periods may be dated as follows: ancient period from 650-1200, medieval period from 1200-1800, and the modern period from 1800 to the present. Bengali Literature is called "Bangla Shahityo" in Bengali literature. Bangla literature first
appeared between 10 to 12 Century. The earliest writings of Bangla literature is "Chayapaddo" which is song of Bhuddist. After that period history of Bengali literature is divided into two parts. First part is from  1360-1800 called medieval and Second Part is call modern (after 1800). Medieval Bengali literature consists of various poetic genres, including Hindu religious scriptures and Islamic literature.
